A Sermon for Every Sunday was founded in 2014 by Jim Somerville, Pastor of Richmond’s First Baptist Church, and David Powers, President of Belltower Pictures, as a way to help churches that didn’t have, or couldn’t afford, a regular preacher. They record high-definition videos of their ongoing sermon series, created by well-known preachers, and make them freely available to audiences online. These sermons are used by numerous groups and people including small churches, house churches, Bible studies, Sunday school classes, and individuals viewing the videos on their laptops, tablets, and smartphones.
A Sermon For Every Sunday’s original site experienced issues with inefficient user experience including poor navigation, an inability to easily update the website’s content including videos, and poor Search Engine Optimization. We evaluated the site architecture and came up with a navigation framework that is in-line with the structure of the various sermon series offered, while also giving users easy access to the site content.
With a complete redesign of the site, we were able to build in several SEO features and user experience considerations including featuring the most current sermon in a large, prominent area on the home page. In addition, we added features that allow for tagging and categorization of the sermons on the back end, to better enhance suggested sermons and help users to find videos based on those categories. Most importantly we created a new user experience path that lead the users to their wanted destination. We did this with a few graphical elements guiding the users, but the inclusion of the related sermons, categories and tags, and the new search function with auto complete really pushed the user experience to a whole new level.
A Sermon for Every Sunday now has a visually engaging and attractive site that invites users to interact with the videos as soon as they hit the homepage, and then draw them into the content. This new site features a modern, mobile friendly custom template that provides a great user experience on all devices and allows the users to easily navigate between the videos. We also did an extensive amount of Search Engine Optimization work on each video by categorizing the videos, writing meta descriptions, and implementing Google’s AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages) system to increase mobile traffic searches.
